I'm obsessed with this neck too. My next Frankie build will be the beak. That is either a light finish as you said, or an oil rub. Here's a closeup of that pic (Check the screw imprints on the nut shelf from the Floyd nut block screws):

Rockingers and Kahlers were used in conjunction with standard nuts and the strings were clamped down post-nut.

Thanks Jimi. I actually caught my error and edited my post prior to your post Smile hehe I really figured out what those are... I think they're screw imprints.

With that shot you can really see how the decal outline still shows which means it wasn't coated over to a factory look, wow I needed that shot.

There's actually finish on that neck... wondering if that's what you're thinking about...
It's apparently fairly thick, with the exception of the headstock face, apparently... this from Cody who owned this neck for a while, and had it screwed to his Fender/EVH replica (!)... that's partly why it still looks in such good shape to this day.
... oh how I love that neck...

Steve, it's really more of the grain on the front of the headstock that bugs me. That more than anything on the neck, and yeah I know that neck had a real finish on it and that deffinetely changes the look and feel of things.

Oh how I love it too....makes you wonder exactly how many people actually owned that neck.... Laughing

Floyd nuts don't have screws that correspond to those locations. In fact, the early Floyd nuts are completey flat on the bottom... I think those imprints may be as a result of an improvised method of raising the height of the nut...

Not that many, Johnny... maybe three to five people at the most.

Here, by the way, is where the neck ended up...

.

...yes, that's right- on Azusa #22!

Not much of an update since I am still taking measurements for tape stripes and making a list of it for both front and back and being anal about it before I start Laughing

But thought I would throw this out here. PCR noted that he would take a clear sheet and make markings from Ed's guitar and check the allignment on his body as he went along...correct me if I'm wrong PCR Wink
I do something a little different in that I print out actual size posters with PosteRazor and then Laminate the sheets. that way I have them for future use, and It makes it easier to throw a 3'' wide piece of tape down on those tricky shaped things and get an accurate shape to them and be able to peal it right off. You can mark intersecting lines from Ed's guitar and see how they line up on yours by lining the tape up with those same lines on your body. I need all the help I can get with those pieces pictured below..lol
So perhaps this will help some of you..maybe it's been done before but thought it might be worth bringing up. I use the quarter and one of the reflectors for getting absolute size. Wink
