Well fellow builders, with all the great builds going on here and after giving my OLP 5150 away, it's time to do another Franky or 2 Laughing

So I decided to go with KNE this time around. I purchased 2 bodies from him, 1 is Northern Ash that is heavy as all get out, and the other is Alder which is one of my favorite woods to play. So I will be doing the Alder one and hiding the Ash for another time. I will needs some eyes later on in the picture thread to spot changes I need to make in my taping. I can use the eagle eyes here to help me since I have torn the entire tape job off 3 times because I was NOT satisfied with the look. And if need be I will do it again Crying or Very sad

So here's what I have so far and what I've been working on for the past month or so:

Musikraft Franky Birdseye neck that I intended to use, but I have always wanted beak neck Franky ever since I first saw Steves Franky, so I ordered one from Musikraft that Scott Smith and I specd out over the phone. Can't wait for it to come.

Of course My Alder Body from Kne, man the routes are killer accurate to my eyes. And with a little work for the brass block on the floyd it's there!

Still deciding to either use newer schallers I have, ot these older West German ones I was trying to sell. Not sure yet.

I am putting in a Seymour Duncan sh 11 that I relicd to look like the EVH Franky pup, I love the tone of those pups and it's what I wanted to use in the Alder body.

Of course my 80's floyd rose with old style arm added and big brass block upgrade.
And I have my parts kit by non other than Scottb5150

So here are some pics

Oh lawd, I think he's officially caught the most severe form of the bug; the "I don't care how close I've gotten in the past, I want to do it again!" strain

Laughing

Looking wonderful so far; I can see that you're using steve's build as a reference for black/white tape; good move there. Just practice relicing with a blade before you decide to spray, because I've messed up some bodies that I've tried to relic with a blade.

Go all out!

Awesome! Looking great so far! I'm actually partial to the newer Schaller minis if you do the beak as I think Ed's had those on his beak at the time. If you do the strat neck, I'd go with the older ones. Just my 2 cents Smile

Thanks for the input nighto5150! I should ask Scott Smith at Musikraft what kind of tuner holes were drilled in the back of the original. When I ordered my neck he told me he actually had the real neck in possesion for a short time. Said it was a wider flatter profile neck, a thin D profile and that's what I had done. I really like that feel as I had that on my Art series I built.

Very excellent. The guy who purchased Ed's original took front pics only. I wish he took rear pics as well. Unless someone has those Wink I'd love to see em. Maybe Scott at MK has them.

It's possible, I might have to call him and ask about that. He told me he wants to see the pics when the guitar id finished so I would think any info that would help me he might give. When I ordered the neck I was going to order it without the overhang and a square heel but he told me not to do it because he said if I wanted it like Eddies then I needed the overhang. Just a little more of a pain to adjust the neck while on the guitar...lol

I'm mounting a petition right here right now: QGF, do NOT take down your signature Laughing Laughing Laughing

heeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre'ssssss JOHNNY! awesome to see your new build in progress! Great looking body! Scott at MK is great, really helped on my neck too. I know you're asking for eyes on this, so I hope you don't mind if I point out a couple of spots that struck me as potentially bugging you later. I only have mine as a reference of course, so I tried to look back and remember some trouble spots I had once I shot white:
-on the front, you may want to make the 'wingtip' a bit sharper? (pink mark)
-I would rag that edge a little bit (blue mark), it may bug you later that it's 'too black'. better to have too much white that you can relic down to the shape you want, if that makes sense.
-on the back, same thing (pink marks) I'd worry that that would end up 'too black'. again, better to make it too small and nail it with a knife after.
Glad you got the tummy cut white bit right (up top), I screwed that up on mine and had to adjust after, real pain.

Great job taping so far!!!! Hope you don't mind the second opinion on this. Your taping looks great and puts you in great shape to destroy the thing once the white is on. Nice! Very Happy

Great PCR! that's the kind of stuff I am looking for. I keep looking at those areas myself and saying something still bugs me about them..so your right on. Like I said I literally had this thing taped up a few times and got so madd I ripped it all off and started again out of stubborness. I have a pretty huge tape ball now for my cat...lol Thanks for the input Wink
