Yes, the shellac sealer from Musikraft is very thin too, I actually removed all of it on mine, although I think that might have voided any warranty, but I wanted to feel the bare wood! One thing I found out with mine was that the 10mm tuner holes were VERY tight! So you might want to mock-up your with the tuners before any painting... all I did was wrapped some med. sandpaper around a pencil and gave each hole a few good turns and then the tuners went in fine. Good luck! Be sure to keep us updated with lots of pics! Very Happy

That looks alright... in my opinion, the 5150 started out as a red color, then must have quickly faded into an orange-ish red. If you look at early tour pics from 1984, you can see it more red. Then in 86 and later pics it appears more orange. As for gloss or flat (matte) I guess that depends on whether you're going for a new "glossy factory" finish or plan too relic it. My build is kind of in the middle... it's more reddish, and I didn't put any gloss clear over the paint. But I did use "gloss" paint and then roughed it up with fine steel wool. My mistake was using a cardboard template to spray the black stripes, and I got them a lttle too wide. But I think I captured the overall vibe, and it plays so nice I can't bring myself to re-do it! Smile
Search up pcr's or many other's 5150 builds and study them... they are all excellent! The main thing to me is a good body, neck and pickup, and an original Floyd Rose! If you have all those and get it setup right, you'll be happy.

no, you're right, but that's just wear and tear from getting to it without taking the neck off...

I never noticed that... pcr is probably right... mine looks about the same because my body didn't have the little divot there, but I made my own with a small round file.

yeah thats all it is. In 84 it was brand new and after digging at it without taking the neck off made the hole more worn and oblong...

This will pick up steam once that slow moron ships you your birthday present. On the bright side at least you aren't waiting on Divebomb.

My appologies and thank you for your patience and understanding Theodorkk.

Have JB in mine, I would go with that or the Custom Custom... I think the 59 is more of a neck pup?
