Sorry, but I e-mailed to ask if this is permissible, but never got a response.

Anyway, and after reading some links here and seeing a particular catalog that I had tucked in my safe... It's a long story, but here's where it ends...

As a kid back in 1986 to 1989, we had a music store here in Delaware, Ohio called "The String Shoppe" and the guy running it was Greg Houston who used to work for Motown Records or whatever. Back when I was a kid, I used to ramble on and on to Greg and his employee, Rich C., about EVH...

Regardless, Conant told me that Greg had met Eddie several times at the NAMM shows... On one occasion, Rich said "Let me show you something" and pulled out a Kramer brochure... Oh Jeeezzz... To make a long story short, he unlocked a file cabinet and pulled it out and says, "Check this out". What he pulled out was the Kramer brochure with both Ed and Valerie's autographs on them along with a taped picture of them sitting on a gold colored couch with the guy who used to be the president of Kramer, Dennis Berardi.

To make a long story even longer, I asked him if they would sell it! Couple days later, and Rich says, "What will you give me for it?" I said, "45 dollars" - minus the pictures taped to it. Next thing you know, they sold it to me and I had my own Eddie Van Halen autograph along with Valerie's signature on it.

Well, I'm trying to sell this, but I want to know what this thing is worth? In fact, the former String Shoppe manager or whatever you call him actually walked into our local hospital near his home, handed the Grady Memorial Hospital ER on-duty a personal note, pulled out a gun, and then shot himself in the head a few years ago. At that time, he then owned a local music store called "Big Daddy's" here in Ohio, but it has been out of business for a couple of years now.

Anyway, I just want to ask any Eddie Van Halen autograph collector or knowledgeable NAMM participant if they remember the NAMM show back in 1982 to 1984-5 if they remember it and if the then-Kramer guitar display had a gold-colored couch with Eddie and Valerie signing autographs. Greg was taking pictures and had them taped to this brochure, but they wouldn't sell them to me with the catalog... And, yes, I do now wonder what this thing is now worth... For pictures, you can see my pictures at

http://public.fotki.com/taser489/

Any help would be appreciated, especially anybody who was at that NAMM show who could verify that Eddie, Valerie, and Dennis Berardi were sitting on that gold colored couch while signing the autographs? And, it was weird, but Valerie actually signed the thing, "Valerie Van Halen" instead of her former name. For VH autograph collectors, is this normal?

I've seen cancelled checks from the VH household and that appears to be how she signs her name.

That EVH signature looks a little odd though. I'm wondering if it's ligit.

EVH Ninja

I can assure you it was authentic. I remember those pictures and many, many more from just about any and everyone that you could imagine. Greg was my uncle and one of the most talented musicians you've ever seen. Greg wasn't just an autograph seeker or a fan at those shows, EVH considered him a friend and a peer. What you haven't seen is all of the amazing footage of him playing with all those guys.

Whenever anyone would play the Newport, I would always get to go hang out with them next door at the String Shoppe.

My Uncle Greg passed away in 2000. If you ask me, $45 was a steal...to me, they were priceless.
