Always pondered over this.
I used a 3 ply on mine but I was thinking...
is the pickguard a remnant from the VH1 incarnation?
If that is the case it should be single ply then, well a single ply piece of vinyl or whatever it was he cut up.
I have seen pictures through the controls being held on by black tape to a smaller cut pickguard. The even smaller one looks like it could have been the original guard though.
When I look at photos of the replica I wonder if I am seeing a 3ply pickguard or just black and the shielding underneath?
Are my eyes playing tricks is it definetly 3ply? |

| I believe that there were many pickgaurds. There are pictures of the handcut all black vinyl, a white pickgaurd, a switch plate holding the tone (volume) knob with no pickgaurd and what looks like a fender b/w/b pickgaurd. My guess is the current version is an 11 hole b/w/b fender pickgaurd. |
