Hey guys, I hope to use this thread, and anticpate this to be a lonng thread for my 3rd build. I know we've all got the disease, dam this would be my 7th VH Guitar! Now I know its never dead on, lets get as close as we can here. Like our own Scorch here, I plan on taking you guys with me. My last Frank was made of great parts, but I realized, it was far too inaccurate. As soon as I "get rid of" my previous frank, I will buy all of Divebombs parts for this guitar as I trust his parts 100%. I've studied and studied these pictures and it looks to me hes got a great hold on it.
First quesiton of the thread is.....
What's up with the white stripe on the upper part of the horn here? Is it tape???
Take a look...: |

| it's tape, he used pounds of it to keep his strap attached to the guitar...tape eventually came off leaving the sticky residue as seen in up to date pics... |

conspiracy theory time!
i think it's 2 different Frankies!
ok, maybe not, but that white stripe is a mystery. Maybe Ed painted over it later. Notice there is slightly more wear n tear on that horn on the pic w/ the gobs of tape that on the one w/o tape.
Also, between the jack and the pick guard on one of the stripes, on the pic w/o the tape there is a screw hole there, while on the pic w/ the tape there is none. Im sure you guys know all this but seems strange to me why would Ed screw something in there later? |

Not a screw hole; it's a cigarette burn.
That question about the white stripe is a good one. I'm inclined to believe that he used light-colored duct tape (possibly white or light gray) to hole the strap button firmly in place and then went over it with black electrical tape to cover it up and make it blend in. That's my guess.
that would be my guess as well! |

| Thats a great point letch, notice how its a lot brighter than the rest of the white? only thing that gets me is it looks like its paint. For now, i'll say its duct tape. |

It's probably a piece of white tape...
...like Ed used sometimes...
...He used some weird ways of attaching his strap!

| Now I can continue on... Question #2: Does anyone have a good shot of the back of the neck that is on the Fender replicas? Looking at some of them, the transition to the heel is different on the replicas. nhotas, *nudge LOL Is that part on the Musikraft correct? Extended heel and all? I hope you get what I'm saying. |

I do get what you are saying. The transition happens at the forth dot counting from below. Musikraft has a incorrect transition heel at their site, bevause they wanted to show a smoother transition heel. When I asked them to correct that for me, thay offered me a transition too far from the heel to be comfortable. That way, I had to shave my neck (...errrr...). I think Musikraft now has their act straight just ask for a Franky transition heel.
Most Fender replicas have the transition heel ok. Still, one in the ad pictures have a heel just like the one I received. |
