So I'm listening to Howard Stern talking about VH, taking some calls about the shows, etc. Howard said that he has spoken to Ed a few times on the phone and has asked him how he can put a cigarette in his mouth after going thru tongue caner. Eddie told him that the cancer was not from cigarettes, it was from sticking metal guitar picks in his mouth and holding them there while playing in concert.  Look, I'm no doctor, but that sounds like an odd explanation from Sir Edward!<br><br>  |

TO ME this kinda sounds like Eddie is just messing around to throw people off cause he's so tired of getting moaned at to quit smoking. mabye he just developed this "metal pick" thing as an answer to people who confront him about his smoking.<br><br>I've read so many interviews where Eddie just messes with people to throw them off and leave them " ?". And i think this thing is just another one of his little jokes.  |

| Definitely he's messing up with the interviews but I think that if he's not gonna say the true maybe he could get a grip on reality for himself and quit the smokes!! |

| Plus the fact that I've never heard of him using metal picks.<br><br>Cancer isn't always caused by smoking though. My Aunt died of lung cancer at 44 years old and never smoked a day in her life ...neither did anyone in her household. <br><br>It's easy to blame smoking for cancer but fact is, it actually might not be from smoking. I've never heard of anyone getting tounge cancer from smoking either. I've heard tounge cancer being caused by chewing tobacco, but not smoking. That's not to say that Ed isn't trying to cover it up or anything, and it's not to say it WASN'T caused by smoking.<br><br>Although, if it wasn't caused by his smoking, why has he cut down so much? Why did Val leave? |

| I will say that I was intrigued by this thread to look at my old mags because I remember somewhere I read that EVH used metal pics, he did!<br><br>In Issue 27 of Acoustic Guitar World Ed is interviewed about VH III and the fact that more acoustic playing was involved. I don't have the mag in front of me (I'm at work) but he claims to have used some metal pics for awhile and that Dunlop was considering mass producing them (he also mentions using a quarter for some songs).<br><br>When I get home tonight I will pull it out and type up the exact quote.<br><br> |

) - Maybe she would prefer him have Altoids in his mouth then metal picks (If you don't know what I'm talking about w/the altoids comment ...you're missing out!)<br><br><br>On a serious note:<br>I do know for a fact that alot of carpenter (particularlly roofers) had developed oral cancer untill it was determined that holding nails in their mouth was the cause. Apparently, the galvanizing of the nail was causing it and oral cancer in carpenters dropped significantly at the introduction of pneumatic nail guns. --Learned about that tidbit in a trade magazine... Yet more useless information posted by Shaggy!
