I only worry about if it is compatible or if it affects performance.

I do want it close as possible, so if I don't have to break my neck, I want accuracy. :/

Gah! I am an idiot! Mad It turns out, you should ALWAYS triple check your parts if you resume a project two years after you start it.

I bought (and already installed) these

but I am almost positive I should have ordered these

Please tell me it either doesn't make a difference, or is easy to rectify EVH Cry

Ugh! On a side note, using the same brand of paint, we stripped and repainted my Dad's Corvette hood. Lookin' nice :/

You can use those since you already installed them. To take them out is a bit of a pain but can be done, but then you will have to dowel in the holes and re drill for the screw in type since the hole will be a bit smaller. You can pull the inserts out by screwing in the actual post and securing the body down to a drill press platform. Put the screw part in the press chuck and work it upwards. Just make sure your pulling it straight up and out. I've done it before and it will work with some patience. But you may just want to leave those in at this point and just make sure you have black screw in posts to go in them. No one will know but you.. Wink

Thanks Johnny.

On to a quick update, and pictures later tonight.

I've read through quite a few build in here, and have ALWAYS been impressed with the amount of work you guys are willing to do. One thing I have never understood is how it took so long for the masking. Woke up this morning with that mentality. FIVE hours later, I am sweating. I was getting a bit worried while taping for the "eagle" on the back, but by tearing seperate pieces of tape and masking on top of the fine line, it turned out awesome!

We are letting it set for a few hours, and if possible, will mask for red after(once again, ONLY possible since no relicing will be done).

EDIT: Managed to get a teaser picture uploaded

I know that it has been a while since I last posted any updates, but I can make up for it.

I will start off by saying that there is no feeling in the world that can quite compare to removing tape after spraying red. Looking at build photos doesn't quite give it justice.

Without further ado, the big reveal! Shocked

Grain was removed with primer. Plus, we are clearing, wetsanding, and buffing it.

This project was intended on being Ed's baby if it hadn't been beat to Sh** Wink

as for mounting the neck - looks like you've already done this. but for future reference i had a tip i wanted to share with regards to locating and drilling the holes in the neck. your body came with neckplate holes. mount the bridge, nut and tuners. clamp the neck into place with a hand clam that has rubber pads. install the low and high E strings. nudge it into position.

then i used a 6" piece of round metal stock (like thick piano wire) that is the exact diameter of the neckplate holes on the body. grind one end down so it resembles a flat head screwdriver tip. then take the knife edge of that and grind it to a slight point in the center. then, using your hand ... shove it into the holes of the body and rotate - try to dig into the neck wood with it. the tip of this new "tool" will give you a pilot hole. the rest of the knife edge will scrape the total diameter of the hole to drill.

as long as the neck stays clamped tightly you should be able to locate the holes in the back of the neck accurately. disassemble the guitar and drill the neck on a drill press. also ... i made a jig for the neck to hold it square too. that was just a piece of hardwood to lay the neck (frets down) on ... and i screwed two other pieces of hardwood to the sides (like book ends) - they squeezed the neck so it won't move around.

hope this helps ... someone ...

Thanks for the information mlannoo. I am sure that anyone who takes a gander at this thread with intention of building a replica will appreciate that information.

Will a mod please edit my previous post? It had been a while since I've been on the site. Excuse the profanity Confused

Replacement (correct) tuners arrived in the mail today, and my Reflector set/Replicator X should also arrive soon. Project should be finished in two weeks.

On another note, I now have a set of standard Gibson tuners that need a good home. PM me!

I'm embarrassed to even mention it, but I have never set the action for a guitar.

I would REALLY appreciate instructional advice. How low does the bridge sit? What is the correct height for the pivot screws? I just need help in general.

Tuner installation was flawless! Cool
