Very true about the wood. This buddy's guitar was pretty nice to work with actually. I mainly used different files, and exacto knives to do most of it. I also used green scrubby pads to (lighten) the red over the white and expose the white where the red faded over time. I used a fork, a hammer chisel for a few specific ding shapes and scrapes, but mostly the files and exacto. For the blue paint I matched the color and had home depot make up one of those little sample bottles and I stencil brushed it on. Worked real nice and won't come off easily. good 'ol house paint. I did the same thing with the fogging using stenciling techniques with the matched white and Super red II. I like how it came out and I was able to control it very well. If it didn't look right I just cleaned it off and started again. Once dry I blended and put some age and miles on it. Lot's and lot's of work but worth it in the end. My neighbor was like "Man you've had that guitar for a while huh?" I just laughed and said no I did this to it  |

Funny you mention the "scratcher" pad, as we call them Instead of the green ones we have the natural brown ones. Really did a good job on the scratch/smear to soften the exacto and paint lines. I just looked at it and wondered if anyone else used one. Seems so. |

Had to stop playing the friends guitar and get back to at least finishing this Alder build. My Ash body is waiting at the other end of the bench..
Did a little more work on it the last few days. Misplaced a couple of the reflectors and once they are down...they are down  oh well it's par for the course for this one. But I am still excited to get the thing finished and play it. Still lots to do: many more extra holes to drill, my version of fogging, blue paint, wire tangle on switch, horn goop black tape, white tape, aging the Replicator X, aging the Bucker a little more...etc,etc.
In a few of the shots you will see my version of shielding You ever order everything you think you need to finish something, click pay, only to realize arrrrrg you forgot to add shielding tape to the order!!! Oh well I used what I had on hand which was stuff for duct work. Not the first time, and certainly not pretty but gets the job done. This thread is nothing if not humorous at least So here are a few photos of the progress to date. |

| I have to chime in here: these builds are insane Johnny! Awesome! And you're just cranking them out, it's nuts! I do especially love the ash one... lucky kid! Nice work all around. |

A few more pics of work done this evening on the Alder body. Got it strung up and the switch wired up, gotta tweak it a bit but it's in there. Doing a little fogging with stenciling brush along the edges and back area. Coming along little by little
Just have to stop comparing it to the other one, but that one gives me inspiration for my Ash one with the beak neck. I just need to pretend it's for someone else and it'll be great!! ha ha ha! |

First non rainy day in like a week....so I did a couple shots outside just like the friends guitar. have to tone down some of the fog and do the blue paint, horn goop, black tape, medical tape yet but it's looking OK for the trouble it's caused me.. Really bugs me that I got those 2 reflectors too close together....  oh well! |
