Hahaha... I forgot to take note of the count today.
Thanks for the above; and you're right, sanity notwithstanding...

Stop being humble! The SCORCH thread crashes servers in India as we speak! Both of you have a lot to be proud of. |

Hey Steve,
What an incredible job...
Quick question.
I'm also from Canada.
What paint do you recommend?
Black?
White?
Red?
Clear?
Where can I get it?
Canadian Tire?
Home Depot?
I am assuming you were using spray
cans?
Also where did you get the different sizes
of tape?
Checked Home Depot the other day and
they only had one or two sizes.
I plan on stripping and painting a
Peavey Wolfgang Special to look
similar.
Thanks for the tips in advance.
Craig
P.S. I grew up in Scarborough. |

Hi Craig - welcome to the forum, and thread.
Thanks for your kind comments.
Paints: yes, all rattle-can sprays; regular gloss black, slightly off-white gloss (forget the name of it off-hand), and Super Red II (current favourite, anyway).
Clear... ?!? =]
If you're going to do clear over top, you'd be best to use the clear made by the same maker as the other colours - those would be Duplicolor.
Canadian Tire is a great place to get those. Home Depot would be of no help to you in this case.
The only way I was able to get all of the different sizes was to cut them myself from larger widths =]
Having said that, 1/4" masking was very handy as well - bit hit and miss on where to get that, but when in doubt, hit up an art supplies store (DeSerres, Michael's, Curry's).
That Wolfie Special would be an interesting project; I trust you'll post lots of pictures of the fun =]
You're most welcome for the tips.
(And I was born in Scarborough =])
Cheers! |

I went to High School at Lamoreaux
near Warden and Finch.
Thanks for the tips.

One thing about clear (for what it's worth)....one fairly reliable guitar painting enthusiast on another forum emphasized over and over not to use Duplicolor clear - on the premise that it's automotive and intended to be more flexible with plastics and what not - and that it takes an insane amount of time to cure (if at all). I don't have personal experience with this but had some Dupicolor clear ready to shoot when I read his recommendation.
He recommended Watco Clear and said it cures a whole lot faster. I have already used Watco over Duplicolor now, no bad results.
You'll get recommendations of 30-90 days in terms of doing final sanding on a normal clear lacquer. His experience was he was safe at 30 if that is of importance to anyone considering.
Of course, when talking about gloss clear coats and final sanding....why even discuss it in a Franky thread, LOL!!!! |

Good to know...
I know there can be negative reactions to cross-branding different layers. |

BTW; my world got a little bit sadder as of today...
I found out earlier this evening that the EVH/Fender replica that I got to handle and photograph along-side my #1, and then #2 - the same one that is pictured in this thread along-side QuiGonStein has been sold from the store that's been its keeper for the last few years.
Very strange to have it not there.
(Interestingly, though, the universe (! pun - see following) worked to balance things out a bit for me; the store had on display its brand newly arrived Jem-EVO replica... another influence on me... very impressively 'aged' replica, and relatively reasonably priced for 1-of-100...) |

I have just made an account for this site, but have been watching this for a while (but not for too long).
I am making a replica, and I am following what you did for reference, but I need to know if the floyd wood screws fit the 8mm holes that the small Floyd Posts fit in. I find it hard to imagine that they do, but I think I need to know how big the holes need to be for when my project springs into action.
Thank you for any replys, and I hope to see more exciting projects in the future about replicas like this. |

Welcome to the forum (in official account standing - I did much the same before deciding to park the build thread here).
I am pretty sure, without digging into spare parts and such to measure, that the holes for those would be incorrect... but I'm not speaking from specs in front of me.
From the Floyd Rose site - the threaded part of the wood-screw Floyd post is 4.3mm, and the upper counter-bore is 7mm.
So, the insert holes are definitely too large. |

Totally ridiculous! But in the end, as Steve well knows and has so amazingly demonstrated, it's the combination of all those little 'whatever' details that make the big picture mojo just pop and come to life in the end. Fantastic. A real milestone.
BTW, PCR, been meaning to say that it is not lost on me that your build captures this detail brilliantly as well... Cheers! |

Nice shot, but honestly.... don't you ever clean that thing?

Good shot, and well-captured moment in time.
