Hows this one going man? I want to build a shark as well, but would it sound all screwed up with the big chunk of wood missing?

Dang, you keep catching me on this. Laughing I like that you're keeping me on my toes!
I used a sabre saw and chopped out the chunks of the body a couple weeks age. The saw made the cuts rough, so I've been looking for a way to sand the roughness out of the wood. I'm thinking a 3/8" dowell wrapped in 180 sandpaper will work well...this will happen very soon.

Cutting the chunk out of the guitar did screw up the tone and Ed didn't like it. That's why he added the turnbuckles; thinking it would act as a connecting piece to the rest of the body. It didn't work like he had hoped.

OK, Mr Bond...it's gotten really cold here in the Midwest, and when it gets really cold here, my garage also gets cold. However, I think I may get some space heaters and continue on with this animal!

Holy cow, it's been a year since I've done anything major on this??? Well, until today!!! The new album and show reviews revitalized my excitement for this. I was off today so I cut out the filler pieces to fill the "Epiphone" route at the switch. The direction of the route on the Epiphone is off, but to the casual eye it will appear normal. Wednesday evening - Bondo the glued pieces and sand to shape. Painting should be just around the corner!!! I'll attach some pics of today's work soon!

I've looked at many different build threads but couldn't find the answer to this question:

What sizes of tape are used for the large and small stripes on the Shark??

2 of the silver coats are on the body right now. Need to run and get another can of silver, the little cans go quick! I'd hoped to have my new computer by this weekend so I could upload some pics, but they'll have to wait until Tuesday.

Here are some pics...

This is when the finish was sanded and roughed with 220 sandpaper. You can see the route filling that I did (came out pretty good!)

Here's a shot showing the primer. Mainly used primer so the black wouldn't threaten to show through the silver.

The silver coats are on...5 of them, I think.

I was worried that the Red Metallic I had would be too dark, so I make a sample color swatch...

From left to right, it's Red Metallic, Candyapple Red, Red Metallic covered with Candyapple Red. Any thoughts? I think the Candyapple Red is the closest match to Ed's.

that's a tough call. I think you've got to go with your gut on that one.

looks great so far! make sure to note the damage done prior to shooting red. not much but there are a few gouges that have red over the top of them.

While I like the metallic look of the Red Metallic, it's a little too dark. I've got to go with the color that everyone thinks is closest to the original...Candyapple Red. Can of Red Metallic for sale! Laughing

YMI, where are these gouges you speak of? I'm going for factory finish, but it'd be good to note for a future relic version. Wink

Crap! Ran into another paint issue. After I sprayed the red, I waited about an hour before removing the tape. When I did, the red and silver both pulled away from the primer. Damnit!! I think it may be because I used a can of silver I bought 2 years ago to start, but I can't be sure. The good news is the manufacturer is sending me replacement cans to redo the job. Just sucks because I spent a good 2 hours just on the masking! Trying again probably next weekend! Sad
