I really hope someone has a solution to my problem. I bought a kramer pacer one piece poplar body from musikraft. I have wasted alot of cake on paint thus far due to stripping body back down 3 times. My issue is this I have sealed with shellac, sanded smooth, primed and sanded smooth but when i spray my colour coats (white and red) there is a noticable difference in paint texture where the contol cavity is but on front side. You can see an out line where the route on the back is. When primed and sanded it looks perfect, cant see a thing. I sprayed light colour coats, 5 in all and you can see what looks like a shadow almost where the back route is. I am using duplicolour arctic white and flash red. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm... that's really weird... Have you tried sanding that area where the outline shows up? Lightly I would go. When you strip the paint are you using stripper or sanding it off?
Might try to sand it off if number 4 doesn't work.

If you get it on the 4 time, try lightly sanding it to get the edges down. Any pictures?

Hey thanks for the response btw. Well I sanded it back down to wood and as you can see no trace of the cavity. This is a strange one, never seen this before. I think I will do watco clear lacqure 5 coats then sand and then primer and hope for the best.

I think it might be thin enough to be flexing under sanding, or some such... just a thought.
That is pretty mysterious, though...

Strange... almost looked like a "blush" spot that didn't dry as quick as the rest... I used Duplicolor spray lacquer on mine, that stuff dries to the touch in like 30 min, then gave it 48hrs or so in between colors and had no problems.

To me this looks like you've sanded through your shellac sealer in that area and the paint is on bare wood while the rest is on top of the shellac. I think I've seen this before. Might be wrong though. I'm thinking the bare wood has gotten 'torn' up during sanding and is slowing the dry time while the rest of the paint has cured, which gives a shadow from the primer in that area. Even though it may feel smooth, the wood may have a different texture which takes the paint differently than the rest of the surface sealed in shellac.
I'm going on just your pictures, so I may be entirely wrong.
Personally I wouldn't add too many clear coats to seal because it will kill your tone. I would put another coat of shellac and then draw on a light shading with a graphite pencil or something similiar as a guide coat and lightly sand until smooth. Pay careful attention to that area.
Very interesting problem indeed...
Good luck!

Hey thanks for the input guys. Well I stripped it down did proper sand and sealed with Zinsser white shellac which I sanded flat. Then i used dupi sanding primer 4 coats which I sanded flat. Then my dupli base white and no mark what so ever. Things are looking good. Then my red and now its back. I am really at a loss here as to what I am doing wrong. This is however my last attempt I cant afford to waste anymore money on paint. I'll post a pic when the paint drys.

Well I got rid of it...and it took a whole can of paint. Instead of hanging guitar I layed it flat and soaked the front. Waited and hour and resoaked and let dry 2 more hours and its gone. I just pulled my tape and all looks good except for some minor bleeds.
