| Hello everyone! I have been a member of another site for a while but found (accidentally) halen.com last night and fell in love...!!! I am a fan of music of all types but consider Van Halen second to none (of any era, Roth, Hagar, and Cherone)!!! This site and its members have already offered me a wealth of knowledge and I am very happy to have found my new home! Along with my short introduction is a photo of my babies! |

The white Wolfgang is actually red now! My step-father is a custom car painter and he paints a lot of my guitars. The white Wolfie was Van Halen stripped at one time, and then sanded down and spray painted white because I couldn't really gig with a Van Halen looking guitar! But we just painted it candy-apple red and are putting flames on it (similar to the orange guitar). Also, I don't recall why, but I sanded down the headstock so it is just wood now. I got that guitar around 1999 or 2000; it is a special and for some reason, has been my favorite guitar ever since; it just plays and feels perfect in my hands!
I have a good story about the orange guitar that I would like to share. When I was 19 years old (in 1995 or so), a friend of a friend got me a job working at a rehearsal studio in Burbank California. I had been playing guitar for a few years and loved Van Halen of course. Keep in mind, this was before youtube and all that good stuff so any little VH I could find was fascinating. Well a few nights after I began working at the studio, I heard a blisteringly loud and accurate version of Eruption coming from one of the lockout rooms. Then, the band begins to play and they are playing old Van Halen like I have never heard; I thought Van Halen got Dave back in the band and were rehearsing there... Long story short, it was a band called The Atomic Punks which is a Van Halen tribute band. Again, this was before youtube and really, before tribute bands were actually tribute bands not just cover bands (so to speak).
A few nights later, the guitar player said his guitar tech couldn't make a show and asked if I could set up for them; not telling him I was only 19 and couldn't even get in the club and had little to no experience setting up stacks of Marshals, I immediately said yes! Cutting my long story short, I worked for the band for about two years and toured all over with them; but two things stand out. One is that Michael Anthony came to a show one night and got up and jammed with the band; it was a great moment... Again, this was in 95 or 96 when the Balance album had come out and Van Halen was huge; to have Michael Anthony and his tech (Kevin) at a club jamming was an amazing experience. Likewise, David Lee Roth came to a show and loved the band so much, that he took the guitar player (Bart Walsh) on tour with him playing only (or mostly) the old Van Halen stuff. It was great times as I had the opportunity to attend dress rehearsals with the band and Dave himself in a 50x50 room; Dave was nothing less than a great guy and it was a huge honor to just be in his presence in that type of atmosphere.
So to the orange guitar, it is a Steve Stevens Washburn that Bart Walsh owned and used in the Atomic Punks as well as on tour with Dave; it was black when I got it from him and I regretfully painted it (even though it looks great, I wish I would have left in its original condition). Equally, it was given to Bart by Steve himself and I recently confirmed it was/is one of ten that Steve owned himself making it very rare, which is another reason I wish I had not painted it! The orange/brown guitar on the right is also a Steve Stevens that was black; I got it around 1998 or 99 and it has been a great guitar. The red and white stripped guitar, actually is not a real guitar, it is a piece of fiber glass; my step father paints them with any design someone wants to hang over a pool table or whatever. It is just a show piece. The EVH Wolfgang in the middle is hands down the nicest guitar I have ever owned/played. I bought it about two years ago and I simply love it! Well, thats the story on my guitars...!!! |

| Is the mini-VH1 a J Reynolds? My wife just found one for $24.99 at a local thrift store and my daughter immediately said she wanted a Van Halen guitar like Dad. So, that's my latest project. |

Im not sure what kind of guitar it is; I don't even remember where I got it but my eight year old daughter drags that thing around with her everywhere! She is started to learn to play and the other day asked if she could switch guitars; when I asked her which one she wanted, she said the (EVH) Wolfgang! |
