| Has anyone bought the Explorer kit from BYOGuitar.com? It looks like an awesome deal to make into the Shark. It's not a Destroyer, but is there a significant difference in appearance? |

I have never heard of it before 
I'm extremely intrested in buying the Explorer kit, it's alot cheaper then buying one and its already pulled apart for painting. |

I just ordered the Explorer kit. They said they are in production and would be available in about 4 weeks...excellent timing because I just started painting my Frankenstrat! =) In 4 weeks I'll have forgotten I ordered it and it'll be like Christmas in August when it arrives!  |

I ordered and received the Explorer kit from BYOGuitar.com and it looks great! The body and neck are mahogany and it comes with all the hardware and electronics for a complete guitar. The headstock shape is a little different than the Destroyer, but it should be barely noticable after it's painted. The selector switch route is off, but that should be easy to fix by filling it with a strip of wood from the "chunk" removed behind the bridge and then re-routed. Here are some pics of the kit:
Does anyone have the dimensions of the shark-tooth cutout (or an approximation)? |

Looks pretty good, but I think you will also need to plug the Jack and re drill it higher up.... Otherwise you will find when you cut the bottom at an angle you will go right thru the jack!! The controls look to be at the wrong angle too, but thats something that very few will notice once it's been chopped and painted! Nice to see it's got a set neck too! Don't find many kits with that option!

BYO guitar no longer sells the explorer kit (dont see it on their site).
