The VHI is underway. It actually was a couple weeks ago, I've just been more focused on my 5150.
The subject, as pieced together from the internet. I'm surprised it worked with ME wiring it up!

Here it is after the black has been sprayed. I plan on striping this weekend if it gets warmer. I'm using regular Duplicolor acrylic lacquer since black, white, and clear are the only colors needed.

I got a brass nut blank and shaped it VERY well with a Dremel tool. I'll wait until assembly to cut the slots...to allow proper string height.

Mother Nature had other plans for my guitar last weekend, so I can finally paint tonight. Here are pics of the taped body. My 4th coat of white is drying while I upload these. =)

The stripes may not be dead on, but they're close enough for my liking!
Pictures of the unmasked body (hmm...sounds hot!) should be ready in about an hour...

Hey, I found a guy on ebay who has necks for $109 and free shipping. However, with you being overseas, you may have to pay shipping. But the neck I got from him is great and even has the CBS headstock! I'll buy from him again when I get the neck for my red frankie.

Oops, I guess if I could remember what I've read I'd have known Canada! My bad.
I just pulled the tape off and I couldn't be happier with the results! These lines are laser sharp...only 1 small touch up needed! Here are the pics:

darn this is fun! Very Happy

Looking Good man..real good. Are you doing a factory finish?..or relic a bit?..also, any reason you did'nt plug the single coils's routing to help your tone?....

I'm doing factory finish. I didn't worry too much about the tone by plugging the single coil routes because the isn't going to be a player. I have my Wolfgang and ESP that are my players. =)
The routes look cheap (and it was a cheap body) but that's fine on this one because they get covered with a pickguard anyway. I'm working on getting a cheap Strat body with SSS routes for my Frankenstrat. Should be able to get one for $50-$60.

Here is after the clearcoat was applied. I did that a few weeks ago; now I just have to let it hang for 4 months, then finish.

Note the "orange peel" look...God bless wetsanding!

Question about necks; the original Frankie (black/white) had a CBS headstock, right? Did the red/black/white Frankie have a regular-sized headstock? Did both of them have the trussrod adjustment at the headstock or the heel? (I've seen some pics that have a walnut plug in the headstock trussrod hole) If someone could answer me...these questions three...

Adjustment at heel, sort of CBS headstck I dont think it is exact.
It broke and he got a regular strat headstock for the franky.

Got this project done this weekend! It took longer than I had hoped, but I had to do some touch-ups. I even added a brass nut just like Eddie's. Now, to string it up and see if it works.
I'll add some more pictures when I get some better lighting.

Took some more pics the other day before the weather decided to dump about 7" of snow on us. Put a Gibson decal on the headstock (thanks, YMI5150?) and it's barely visible...perfect!
